Our society is riddled with evil, injustice, humiliation, misfortune and alienation from God. In this session hope and embitterment are illustrated as two ends of a continuum. Hope is conceptualized as a meaningful virtue and a spiritual gift from God. On the other end of the continuum embitterment is the manifestation of pain and hopelessness. The multidimensional concepts of hope allow counsellors and pastors to help people to embark on a journey of forgiveness, healing and even to “simply to be again”.
The key scripture for this workshop is Ezekiel 11:19-20: “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh. Then they will follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws. They will be my people, and I will be their God”.
